US Midterms 2026 Election Night: Watch Networks Side by Side

To watch US midterm election night coverage from several channels at once, open their free official YouTube live streams side by side in one grid. Polls start closing at 18:00 ET on Tuesday 3 November 2026 (23:00 UTC) and the last ones close at 01:00 ET (06:00 UTC on 4 November). C-SPAN starts at 16:00 ET (21:00 UTC), NBC News and CBS News' digital "Nerd Show" at 17:00 ET (22:00 UTC), and ABC and CBS start their main coverage at 19:00 ET (00:00 UTC on 4 November). Not every network streams free on YouTube, so check each channel on the night. Our ready-made grid for the night is at /events/us-midterm-elections-2026.

For the general case for watching more than one channel on a results night, see Election Night on One Screen.

What is on the ballot on 3 November 2026?

The 2026 US midterms are held on Tuesday 3 November 2026. According to the 2026 United States elections overview, all 435 House seats are contested, along with 35 of the 100 Senate seats (33 regular seats plus 2 special elections) and governor races in 36 states.

When do polls close? (ET and UTC)

Daylight saving time ends in the US on 1 November 2026, so on election night Eastern Time is UTC-5. Times below follow the 270toWin 2026 poll closing times list; some states span two time zones and close in two steps.

ET (3 Nov)UTCPolls closing
18:0023:00 (3 Nov)Eastern-time parts of Indiana and Kentucky
19:0000:00 (4 Nov)Georgia, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, most of Florida, the rest of Indiana and Kentucky
19:3000:30North Carolina, Ohio, West Virginia
20:0001:00Largest block, incl. Pennsylvania, most of Michigan, Maine, New Jersey, the rest of Florida, most of Texas
20:3001:30Arkansas
21:0002:00Incl. Arizona, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, the rest of Michigan
22:0003:00Nevada, Montana, Utah, most of Idaho
23:0004:00California, Washington, Oregon
00:00 (4 Nov)05:00Hawaii, most of Alaska
01:00 (4 Nov)06:00Last Alaska polls

Poll closing is not the same as a result. Close races and ballots counted later can take days, so treat any timetable as a guide to when coverage gets busy, not to when a race will be decided.

What have the networks announced for 2026?

Most of the big networks published their 2026 plans in October. Where a stream location is unannounced, note that in 2024 ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, NBC News NOW, PBS News and C-SPAN all named YouTube among the places to watch.

  • C-SPAN: at least 20 hours of continuous, commercial-free coverage from 16:00 ET (21:00 UTC) on 3 November, with results, full victory and concession speeches and live reports from more than 30 locations. C-SPAN says there will be no partisan pundits on its flagship coverage. C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3 will carry the election-night YouTube livestreams of two creator shows, The Young Turks and the PBD Podcast (C-SPAN press release, 19 October 2026, PDF).
  • NBC News: 13 hours of continuous coverage on NBC from 17:00 ET (22:00 UTC). The "Kornacki Cam", a dedicated view of Steve Kornacki at the Big Board, streams on NBC News' digital and social platforms from 17:30 ET (NBCUniversal, 28 October 2026). During the 2026 primaries, NBC streamed the Kornacki Cam on YouTube (NBC News, March 2026).
  • CBS News: "America Decides: Election 2026" starts at 19:00 ET (00:00 UTC on 4 November), anchored by Tony Dokoupil and Norah O'Donnell. From 17:00 ET, CBS News' digital platforms carry a new data-focused stream, "Election 2026: The Nerd Show" (TV Insider, 28 October 2026; Axios, 7 October 2026).
  • ABC News: "ABC News Election Night: Vote 2026", anchored by David Muir, starts at 19:00 ET. As of 28 October, ABC had said more details would follow, so check ABC News Live on the night (TV Insider).
  • PBS News: "Vote 2026: PBS News Election Special", co-anchored by Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett, according to PBS member station listings (Arizona PBS). Stations list the start in local time, so check your station.
  • Reuters: we had not found a 2026 election-night stream announcement at the time of writing. In 2024 it ran a YouTube live stream titled "LIVE: US presidential election 2024 results" on its official channel (Reuters on YouTube).
  • Sky News: no 2026 plan published as of late October. In 2024 the UK broadcaster ran "America Votes: Election Night Live" from 22:00 UTC on 5 November to 10:00 UTC on 6 November (ATV Today). Check Sky News' own channel closer to the night.

A practical note: a network may run its election special on a separate one-off video rather than its usual 24/7 stream, and some streams may be geo-restricted or have embedding switched off. Our event grids filter out videos with embedding switched off and are checked every 20 minutes for broken or wrong streams, but we cannot promise every stream will play in every country.

How to see for yourself how coverage differs

The point of watching several feeds together is to notice what each desk does with the same information at the same moment.

When each desk projects the same race. Keep three or four network streams running when a big block of polls closes, for example at 20:00 ET / 01:00 UTC. You may see one desk call a race while another still shows it as too early to call. Each desk decides for itself when it has enough information, and the gap between them is part of what you are watching.

Which calls are actually independent. Not every outlet runs its own decision desk. In 2024, Sky News said its race projections would come from the NBC News Decision Desk (ATV Today). If two screens flip at the same second, that may be why.

Results versus discussion. C-SPAN's 2026 coverage is built around results and full speeches, with no ad breaks, plus reporters in key states. Next to a network desk, it shows how much of the evening is numbers and how much is talk. C-SPAN.org will also carry interactive results and maps from the Associated Press.

What each desk chooses to show. With dozens of House races finishing at once, every channel has to pick which ones to talk about. Watching several feeds side by side shows which races each desk treats as the story of the hour. We wrote more about this habit in Same Story, Five Channels.

Audio from one, pictures from all. Listen to one stream and glance at the others; when a "projected" banner appears on a muted screen, switch the audio over.

How to watch it on ViewGrid

  1. Open the event page. Go to viewgrid.tv/events/us-midterm-elections-2026. It lists the official channels we track for the night (ABC News, CBS News, NBC News NOW, PBS NewsHour, C-SPAN, Reuters and Sky News) and opens them as a grid when they are live.
  2. Or build your own. On viewgrid.tv, paste any YouTube live link (or a Twitch, Kick or Rumble link) to add it to the grid. You can run up to 20 streams on desktop and up to 6 on a phone.
  3. Switch audio by muting and unmuting. Unmute the stream you want to hear and mute the others; when you want a different desk, mute one and unmute the next.
  4. Get one email when it starts. Tap "Remind me" on the event, and when the official streams actually go live you get one email with the link to the grid.
  5. Save the grid. Sign in and save your layout so you can reopen the same set of channels later in the night or for the next election. Every grid is also a shareable link.
  6. Follow the channels. On your live home at /home you can follow up to 50 channels on Twitch, YouTube and Kick and see which are live right now.

Every stream plays in the platform's official embedded player. ViewGrid does not host or re-stream any video, and the event calendar lists free, official broadcasts. Watching is free and needs no account.

What we saw on another election night

On Sweden's general election night (13 September 2026), 503 unique visitors used the election page and grid, and 242 grids opened. We also see people leave news walls running for hours: on 22 September 2026, of the grids open 5 to 8 hours, 7 of 8 were on desktop computers, including national news walls from Colombia, Indonesia, Japan and the US. In a separate organic sample (268 grids, 20 to 21 September 2026), 67% of grids with three or more streams stayed open past one minute, 30% past 15 minutes and 17% past an hour. That is a correlation, not proof that more streams make people watch longer.

Planning your night by time zone

In the US, the busy stretch is roughly 19:00 to 23:00 ET, when most polls close. That is 00:00 to 04:00 UTC on 4 November, so viewers in the UK and Western Europe may want to save a grid in advance. In East Asia and Australia, it falls on the morning or early afternoon of 4 November.

Frequently asked questions

When does US midterm election night coverage start in 2026?

C-SPAN starts at 16:00 ET (21:00 UTC) on 3 November 2026, NBC at 17:00 ET, and ABC and CBS main coverage at 19:00 ET. The earliest polls close at 18:00 ET (23:00 UTC).

Can I watch election night coverage from all channels for free?

Not every channel streams free, but several have. In 2024, ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, NBC News NOW, PBS News and C-SPAN listed YouTube among their platforms, and for 2026 NBC and CBS have announced digital streams of their own. You can put official streams side by side on ViewGrid at no cost and without an account.

Why do networks call the same race at different times?

Each decision desk decides for itself when it has enough information to project a winner, so timing differs. Some outlets use another outlet's desk: in 2024 Sky News said its projections would come from the NBC News Decision Desk.

Is there a feed without ad breaks or pundits?

For 2026, C-SPAN says its coverage will be commercial-free for at least 20 hours from 16:00 ET, with no partisan pundits on its flagship channel and a focus on results and full speeches. In 2024 C-SPAN listed its YouTube page among the places to watch.

What time is it in UTC when the main block of polls closes?

The largest block, including Pennsylvania and most of Michigan, closes at 20:00 ET, which is 01:00 UTC on 4 November 2026. Eastern Time is UTC-5 that night because daylight saving time ends on 1 November.

Will all results be known on election night?

Not necessarily. Close races and ballots counted after election day can take longer, and the last Alaska polls close at 06:00 UTC on 4 November.
